I’m David Porter, LCSW
I am an independently licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Arizona with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. Through Finding Hope Counseling Services, LLC, I provide telehealth psychotherapy services to adults throughout Arizona, supporting individuals navigating challenges related to trauma, porn & sex addiction, PTSD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, relationship concerns, and couples/marital issues.
My clinical approach is grounded in evidence-based, solution-focused, and trauma-informed practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Informed Care. I work collaboratively with individuals and couples to identify strengths, overcome obstacles, and create meaningful change that aligns with their personal values and goals.
In couples therapy, I help partners improve communication, navigate conflict, rebuild emotional safety, strengthen intimacy, and address issues such as trust concerns, attachment wounds, infidelity recovery, and emotional disconnection.
I strive to create a safe, supportive, ethical, and LGBTQIA+ affirming environment where clients feel respected, heard, and empowered in their healing journey. At Finding Hope Counseling Services, LLC, my goal is to help individuals and couples increase emotional resilience, develop healthier patterns, and move toward lasting personal growth, healthier relationships, and overall emotional well-being.
Trauma
Many people experience trauma from childhood experiences, relationships, accidents, violence, or military service. Trauma can impact emotions, relationships, self-esteem, and daily functioning. I provide a safe and supportive environment to help clients process traumatic experiences, develop coping skills, and regain a sense of safety and control.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event and may include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and emotional distress. I help clients learn grounding techniques, emotional regulation skills, and evidence-based strategies to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety can cause excessive worry, racing thoughts, panic attacks, and difficulty concentrating. I work with clients to identify triggers, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and build confidence in managing anxiety symptoms.
Depression
Depression can affect mood, motivation, energy levels, and overall enjoyment of life. I help clients explore underlying causes, develop healthy coping skills, improve self-care practices, and create meaningful goals that support emotional wellness and recovery.
Substance Use Disorders
Addiction can impact relationships, work, physical health, and emotional well-being. As someone with over 14 years of personal sobriety, I understand the challenges of recovery. I help clients identify triggers, develop relapse prevention plans, strengthen support systems, and build a healthier lifestyle.
Pornography and Sexual Addiction
Compulsive sexual behaviors and pornography use can create feelings of shame, secrecy, and relationship difficulties. I help clients understand triggers, develop accountability strategies, improve emotional regulation, and align behaviors with personal values and relationship goals.
ADHD
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect focus, organization, time management, and emotional regulation. I help clients develop practical skills for managing symptoms, improving productivity, strengthening routines, and reducing frustration in daily life.
Bipolar Disorders
Bipolar disorders involve significant shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. I work with clients to identify warning signs, establish healthy routines, improve emotional awareness, and support medication adherence and relapse prevention when appropriate.
Mood Disorders
Mood disorders can significantly impact emotional stability, relationships, and daily functioning. I help clients recognize patterns, develop coping skills, and create strategies to improve emotional balance and overall mental health.
Personality Disorders
Personality disorders often involve long-standing patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others that can create distress. I provide support through evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and ACT to help clients improve emotional regulation, relationships, and self-awareness.
Anger Management
Unmanaged anger can negatively affect relationships, work, and self-esteem. I help clients identify underlying emotions, recognize triggers, improve communication skills, and develop healthier ways to express emotions.
Grief and Loss
Grief can occur after the loss of a loved one, relationship, job, or significant life change. I provide compassionate support to help clients process their emotions, find meaning in their experiences, and adjust to life's changes.
Relationship and Couples Issues
Relationship difficulties can create feelings of frustration, loneliness, and conflict. I help individuals and couples improve communication, rebuild trust, establish healthy boundaries, and strengthen emotional connection.
LGBTQIA+ Concerns
Members of the LGBTQIA+ community may face unique challenges related to identity, relationships, discrimination, and family acceptance. I provide an affirming, nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their experiences and build confidence in living authentically.
Stress Management
Chronic stress can affect mental, emotional, and physical health. I help clients develop effective coping strategies, improve self-care, establish healthy boundaries, and increase resilience during difficult life circumstances.
Self-Esteem and Self-Worth
Low self-esteem can impact relationships, decision-making, and overall happiness. I help clients challenge negative beliefs, build self-confidence, recognize personal strengths, and develop a healthier self-image.
Life Transitions
Major life changes such as divorce, career changes, retirement, relocation, or becoming a parent can feel overwhelming. I support clients in navigating these transitions, managing uncertainty, and building confidence in their next chapter.
